For the curious

For the curious
Kay Benseman outside Te Kupenga o te Mātauranga, Papaiōea

Almost a year ago, as we learned the coalition agreement's soul-selling details, I started writing about the kāwanatanga trampling on the language revitalisation and reclamation gains so hard fought for in Aotearoa. But while I worked on this piece of writing, ever more harmful policies were released week upon week and so instead, I spent time writing submissions on proposed bills, letters to MPs and signing petitions.

When the government announced it was slashing the funding to the teacher education programme Te Ahu o Te Reo, I decided to dust off my reflections and I am really grateful that they were published in E-tangata here.

I also really appreciate all those writers, scholars, activists and educators who have influenced my thinking on these issues and wanted to share these links to the source materials for my writing. I have added them here in the order they relate to my written content for anyone curious about this kaupapa.
