We've been called to whakatīnanatia / to make physical, to embody our desire for Tiriti justice this month. Hīkoi Mō Te Tiriti is happening all over the motu from 10th - 19th Noema - culminating in an expression of tino rangatiratanga and kotahitanga in Pōneke.

Lots of folks don't know how to support this, or feel whakamā and unsure. What is the role for Pākehā like me in moments like this? Tāngata whenua are calling loudly and clearly for Tangata Tiriti (people who belong in Aotearoa by rights and responsibilities of Te Tiriti o Waitangi) to step up and join in these actions. To show the government that they've got it wrong and we want to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and He Whakaputanga and live up to the promises of those agreements. We can feel uncertain and awkward and do it anyway.

If you can't get to Pōneke for the 19th, there's still loads of ways to support! Start by finding out if there are local activations happening in a town or city nearby. But it's also super important to tautoko our tāngata whenua mates and whānau to get there, too. This could look like; gifting petrol vouchers, loaning a tino flag, baking treats for the journey, dog-sitting, swapping shifts to cover at mahi. There's something that every single one of us can do. Even a $20 koha can make a difference! Donations are being accepted now into this Peace Action Wellington account 38-9007-0839416-00 to support folk coming to Pōneke.

Here's a compilation of other actions, events, tautoko and resource links to support Toitū Te Tiriti. Pick one to do today! And another āpōpō! Tell your friends!
